Deconstruction for Reconstruction

Deconstruction for Reconstruction

By Pamarty Venkataramana

When a centuries old fortress begins to crumble from the roof,it is pulled down brick by brick, stone wall after stone wall,to rebuild a modern citadel of utility. Even the Great Wall of China had taken several decades to be completed. In comparison,India which has sprung up a rabbit-like surprise since 2014 polls, has begun to walk with baby-steps towards the #NewIndia objective.

First to crumble was the barbarian practice of male Muslim citizens throwing out marital bond with their spouse(s) by merely uttering ‘talaq-talaq-talaq’ to discard these often illiterate, jobless womenfolk as they do the pan they chew away or dispose of a ( pardon the cliche), tissue paper after usage. It is now criminal on part of any Indian Muslim man to indulge in such a bestial practice which has been discarded by about twenty Islamic lands.

Next to be felled down has been the brick wall of ‘statehood’ of the northernmost part of India: Jammu & Kashmir. It has been rechristened through due process of Statecraft and Law to be trifurcated legitimately and rightly into the union territory status for Kashmir and both Jammu as well as Ladakh regaining their well deserved individuality!

The ‘deconstruction of J & K’ was in fact, necessary and long postponed by predecessor-regimes. This ‘reconstruction ‘ -process is a great relief to both international community as well as the whole of India.

A necessary corollary and immediate need is for the August Houses as well as His Excellency, the President of India to not to forget to pass an Order to expunge the anachronistic phrase-‘ except the State of J & K’ in every piece of law in force across India.

In the heat of the moment, legislators could be pacified by corrupt bureaucrats ( there still exist quite a few of this dying tribe of rulers ) to omit and overlook this much needed Order to ensure that impotency does not hit the ‘reconstruction laws’.

What next?

It is but a laudatory attainment of this Modi-Shah Government dispensation to replace the ‘pelt stones at a disciplined armed force’ scenario with a ‘live and let live’ environment by ‘force of law ‘ : May other countries facing similar theatres of strife adopt this most civilised manner to reinforce the power of a Parliament and the Law.

It is not wrong for a democratic country to indulge in counter terrorism to counter terrorism. And,to a civilised Parliament, the exercise of the power for which they were voted in by respective parts of the land is a validation of their empowerment by the Constitution.

Whilst on this ode to ‘deconstruction for reconstruction ‘, it is not out of place to observe that a ‘whip’ may be properly utilised by any political party only in the event of a ‘no-confidence motion’ being moved: use of such an ‘unconstitutional ‘ tool as a ‘party whip’ is abhorrent to the conscience of the electorate.

Many more such efforts and measures for reconstruction of India are on the anvil and it becomes the onerous responsibility as well as duty of every right-thinking citizen to support and spread the good word. Personal animosities, glory as well as vilification of unknown people can be forgotten now that the process of reconstruction for a #NewIndia has commenced in right earnest.
