Pandit Malaviya was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India on 25 December 1861, his father was Brijnath and mother Moona Devi. Since his childhood Malaviya was interested in Sanskrit, he was attracted to freedom movement and he was 4 time president of Indian National congress.

Whenever I hear the name Malaviya, 2 incidences flash to my mind, which shows the patriotism Malaviya had, and the respect people had on him, let me share first incidence now.
Madan Mohan Malaviya decided to setup a world class Hindu university, he decided to seek fund as donation from all rich people across the country.
Once he went to the Nizam of Hyderabad seeking funds for setting up Hindu university.The Nizam became anger hearing it
” How dare you come to me for funds & that too for a Hindu University?”
In anger, he took off his footwear and thrown it at Malaviya but Malaviya picked it up and left palace. From there he directly went to market and began to auction the footwear of Nizam. As it was Nizam’s footwear, many people came to buy in auction.
The bid started to increase when Nizam heard of this, he became uncomfortable. He thought it would be an insult if his footwear were to be bought by someone for a low amount. So he sent one of his palace attendants with the instruction,
‘Buy that footwear, whatever the price may be!’
Malaviya managed to sell the Nizam’s footwear back to him, for a huge amount than what he wished to seek from Nizam. He used that money to build the Banaras Hindu University.
A small dream of Pandit Malaviya has grown into big tree.Today Banaras Hindu University is among top university in world comprising nearly 20000 students from 34 different countries.
Story of BHU will be inspiration for centuries as it is a conflict between self respect and patriotism. It is happy News for all Indians across the globe that 5 legendary Indians will be felicitated with Bharat Ratna including inspirational freedom fighter “Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya”.
