Can Women of Position end Wars?

Can Women of Position end Wars?

        By Pamarty Venkataramana

The twelve days war popularly known as the #UkraineRussiaConflict has yet again brought to the fore an untouched dimension of war dynamics :
– the pivotal role of womanhood in averting wars as well as ending these inhuman conflicts among countries.

It is not about the blessed women who have given birth or raised generals and soldiers to armies of the world nor is it about mothers of leaders across centuries upon generations of existence of mankind.

Also, this is not about Mata Hari or other famous lady spies, either.

Undoubtedly, History spells out venerable  names like Satyabhama,Panchali,Yashodha, Jhansibai, Ahalyadevi, Kannagi, Jijabai, Rudramma,  Marie Antoinette, Vaidehi, Savitri and such other ladies who have been immortalised by their tryst with wars and noble countenance in midst of wars: some of these ladies raised warriors whereas few became warrior queens, themselves.

Has the time arrived for us to agree that all member-countries of the United Nations Organisation shall be headed only by a woman for a set span of eight decades.

This is with a view to bringing in a refreshing change of governance styles and to uphold the oft-repeated cliche of gender-equality or women-empowerment.

Genetically too,Mother Nature has endowed kindness, mercy and a sense of dignity to the fair gender.

There has also been a clamour for bestowing equal and greater power to women since the last two centuries.

Modern history boasts of women leaders who have exhibited great restraint in face of provocation by opposing forces. Only a handful succumbed to temptation of being drawn into battle which invariably takes a huge and heavy toll of precious lives and immovable assets.

Organisations and professional circles have proven to be less volatile or vulnerable to unionism and outright violent scenarios whenever a lady is in charge of business-operations. Even armed forces have come to recognise the superpower and enviable abilities of a woman in powerful positions of responsibility.

‘ Women of Position’ can definitely ensure all world is in order and once she goes about the onerous task of setting the house in order, the managerial principle of ‘putting the man in right job’ is but bound to come into place.

There would certainly be detractors of woman leaders of a bygone era(such as the likes of Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir or Sirimavo Bandaranaike) who would side with the male chauvinist groups.

But, the issue being highlighted here is of a higher level where equity, probity and equality – the choicest terms in field of jurisprudence are rendered more meaningful.

Appointment of women to more and more positions of leadership is not tjntamounting to creating mayhem much as a sizeable bunch of married folks around might scoff at this suggestion .

As one walks the main street of Washington D.C. near the Lincoln Memorial (where history was created by that elephantine march) for letting women have the right to vote (a hundred and more years back), one can feel the satisfied smiles of those souls who led the crusade for emancipation of women.

India, since ancient times, has had a culture of worshipping the Woman in every form since She is acknowledged as the Creator and not a ‘doormat creature’ of misogynistic societies. Goddess has been placed in a higher pedestal than male deities.

Domestic violence is a war-story of a wholly different kind and turf where inter-personal relationships play a major role.

To end wars and more importantly,to prevent countries from going to war after being at loggerheads over flimsy issues, let each and every country allow a woman to head the Government.

At a micro level, political outfits should honour their ideology by announcing women as heads to man every key-wing.

Not every woman is akin to a soorpanakha or a certain ex-barmaid haunting the largest democratic nation via prowess of drunken loot.

Elsewhere,Merkel chuckles and Hillary toasts to the wine cup of Kamala. Could the ongoing conflict of eastern lands have been averted if two ‘ fair skinned women with blue eyes’ were heading Ukraine and Russia?

The concept of a Motherland certainly  far outshines that of a Fatherland : particularly so in these tumultuous times.

Ponder.

Let the Women halt the wars created by egotistical men. Mercy, Compassion and Tolerance are the hallmarks of a true woman. There can be no war where right thinking women are willing to shoulder such herculean tasks. After all, these are negligible challenges in comparison to giving birth to or raising children.

Jai Maa Bharati! Vandey Matara.
