Not A Hit-Wicket That!

Not a hit-wicket that!

There wa an older colleague of ours associated with the criminal side of law practice at the Delhi High Court who was forever worried about his younger son – a lad who led a lackadaisical life always out in the playground obsessed with Cricket. He would say ruefully that he wished him to study hard and join our law firm. It so happened that the day this colleague breathed his last, that ‘lost child’ of his was called to represent the country’s cricket team.

That youngster never looked back and we few who knew his doting father often wondered whether it was the spirit of the Father or the Son which scored brilliantly in innings after innings.

Blessings count. Blessings matter. Blessings change fortunes.

In the instant case, the rise was as meteoric as the moolah, fanfare and public adulation that courted him. In an era when Bollywood and Cricket were conjoined twins, it was but natural for the high priest of all stage shows to preside over a wedlock.

Deadlock like situations prevailed throughout the multiple performances and battles on ground as also off the playing pitch.

Hamlet enacted, King Lear has curtains down. All world is a stage and we are all but actors who play our respective roles and depart. Nothing applies more aptly as in the arena of the game of Cricket. A gentleman’s game once upon a times, nowadays it is synonymous with gamblers, fixers and political touting. Charm is lost- never to return again.

Exit as dramatically as you enter. A game with diverse formats can only cater to the gamblers’ itch.

Why are so many drowned in unspeakable gloom when a wizard announced retirement from one corner of the pyramid? Whose stakes are in jeopardy?

How can change be ushered in unless one lets go of a chair?

Let there be no remorse if a player feels overwhelmed at shouldering onerous responsibility after a stretch of time. Or else, mental wrecks would be created and more worser morose atmosphere would engulf all stakeholders.

Right decision. Right move. Let those left out step up the ladder. Progress is moving forward-in right direction. Desi cricket has evolved since days of C.K.Nayadu-Polly Umrigar-Ranjit Singh halcyon days. Three cheers to all Fans who keep encouraging the players ,whatever be the connection to performance and pleasure of victory.

Halo remains : only the Crown changes heads.

Hip-Hip-Hurrah!!!
