State of Youth

State of Youth :
Narendra Senior to Narendra Junior

By- Pamarty Venkataramana

They are the life line of any society – the youth. So, ought they to let themselves bring used as whipping horses for grudges or grouses of bickering political parties? Should they not be driven towards academic studies and research work in fields of their study? Are not dubious practices of letting student union elections and funding their activities subverting the very process and purpose of a varsity and university studies?
Who is turning youth bodies into cattle stock or cattle fodder for horrific street parades and even violence?
Why is the Parliament turning a Nelson’s eye to the sad travesty of justice being meted out to parents who scour the family possessions and avail long term bank facilities as well as private loans in order to send their children for higher studies to these haloed centres of grooming scholars – and, future citizens?
Are this vulnerable section of society – the youth class, being groomed into ‘thought-robots’ and mafia-like brigands with littler knowledge and awareness of realities of legislation, policies and status quo of our world scenario?
Even those who reach out for State-funded education appear to be less interested in gaining academic knowledge and more intent on turning into television- studio warriors or armchair-pundits of unknown realms of life.
Constitution mandates education for all. Constitution also directs preservation of cultural heritage and ethos.
But,what is being witnessed today is neither good nor augurs well for future of India.
On this the day when Swamy Vivekananda is remembered as an icon of youthhood and great ambassador of Indian values,it becomes necessary for both the Narendra of today and groups of youth leaderships to recall the clarion call of the Narendra of yore: let not darkness cloud our minds. Lead kindly Light.
Keep the students out of electoral hungama and political harakiri.
Colleges and universities must allow only clubs for debates, fine arts and academic or skills pursuits : ban elections in campuses . Let the university Senate or Management fund essential functions but this counter-productive practice of weaning then away from academic studies must be halted. By legislation. Restrict definition of age bracket of ‘youth’ for sops , scholarships and free stay at university campuses. A lot more little measures can redefine the focus and strength of youth as the backbone of modern society. Let them not go to gurukulas but make compulsory conscription for military duty a necessary feather in caps of the youths of India.
Only such a brave measure can prevent further decadence of youth, society and the nation as a whole- now and forever!
Who seconds such a progressive submission ?
Jai Hind !
