Got your angry mail cursing Modi Sarkar for Railway fare hike. Up to some extent, I can understand your anger & frustration. I know that you were very enthusiastic for Modi Sarkar & had high hope for #AccheDin.
You further wrote that prices of Onion, Tomato have also gone up by Rs. 10-15/Kg. That is true. But Babu! Do you remember the days when prices of Onion & Tomato use to gone up to Rs. 100/+ in UPA rule. At least, Modi Sarkar has been successful in arresting the prices to this level & that too very quickly. These price rises may be due to fear monsoon failure. I pray & hope, Modi Sarkar moves more quickly & decisively. But at the same time I am sure, our attention seeking & TRP hungry media will never flash news when prices fall.
I share your concern about railways fare hike as you said it is the most irritating decision Modi government took. Let us remember that it is the first big over due hike after 11 years. If you remember, in 2012 Rail budget, Rail Minister Dinesh Trivedi hiked rail fare which was welcomed by all except TMC. When Mamta Banerjee opposed & asked Dinesh Trivedi to resign, then PM Dr. Manmohan Singh & his party defended these hikes. But it was rolled back under pressure. However in Dec 2012, Pawan Bansal announced hike again though marginally.
Babu! We all know that our railway is at brink of financial collapse. Its services are pathetic; coaches are below ‘Kam Chalau’ condition. Platforms are dirty. Official are corrupt & you can’t get a ticket of your destination through IRCTC. Every month we see accident killing people because safety measures are not up to the mark.
For all this railways needs money which it does not have. It needs Government’s grant to run it even in this condition. From where this grant comes? Off course from our own pocket. Railway is our life line because it is cheap and it connects most of the part of our massive country. Everyone will agree with one voice that our railway needs up gradation for better & faster services. It needs more coaches & faster trains to carry billion people to their destinations. People want, want correctly, clean platforms, clean coaches & safer journey.
Can all this be done without money? We all know that Indian Railways fares are cheapest. Previously one was travelling in 3rd AC(from Delhi to Mumbai, 1386 Km) in Rs. 1350. That makes Rs. 0.98/Km. Now after hike, the same journey costs @ Rs. 1541/- i.e. Rs. 1.11/Km. Total increase is Rs. 191/- For General class increase is Rs. 73/- & for 1st AC is the increase is Rs. 473/-. I don’t know how many times a person travels in a year. It all depends from person to person & the condition in which he or his family lives. But surely one does not travel daily. Hence this increase is just pittance.
The funniest part of the increase is remarks of the attention seekers. They all cried “We are ready to pay for this increase, if railway is ready to give us world class services”
Hmm. Just by paying 13 paisa/-Km extra, these attention seekers & opposition parties want world class service. Babu! You always go to McDonald & KFC with you little son & family. It charges heavily in name of world class services & you pay. But you don’t pay the same price to Bittoo Tikki Wala though you always want the same type of service & product provided by McDonald. Same is our attitude with railways too. We will not pay extra but want that Indian Railways are run like US Railways.
Babu! Let be ready to pay more in coming time, if we want that government treasure is not emptied for providing services like Railways, Interstate Buses etc just for popularity. But surely & certainly Government should & has to take care of public transport in the city. Their fare can’t & should not be increased the way it has been increased in Mumbai MST. While making decisions, Government should take care of MSTs & general compartments travelers. The simple rule may be followed “Charge who want better services like AC coaches & provide relief to Monthly Passes & 2nd class railway travelers.
Babu! You & I and others know and believe that this time we have brought such a team at centre which will ensure that what so ever extra money comes, does not go in the pocket of corrupts. Even if Modi team does not do any other thing but ensure that no money is stolen at the top, India will be richer by 50% extra.
With Modi team, be assured AccheDin will not be derailed.
