Biased Media reports on Governors replacement

“It is quite normal for a new government to ask some of the occupants of Raj Bhavans to resign as their scheme of things may not suit those holding the high constitutional posts.”

govRecently media broke the news of some governors replacement by NDA government. It is usual thing when there is change of regime at centre. UPA did the same in 2004, older governments too did that in their time. But this time, Media is giving colors of political vendetta. It is reported that Kerala governor, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit; governor of Nagaland, Ashwani Kumar who was rewarded soon after his retirement as CBI director; West Bengal governor MK Narayanan, former NSA and IB director during UPA tenure; Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan, a former minister in Congress-led government in Kerala, Chhattisgarh governor Shekhar Dutt, former defense secretary during UPA-II; and UP governor BL Joshi, a former IPS officer and Congress loyalist.

Reports are showing them as victims & Modi government as villain. It is further reported that these governors should have been left out because they are about to complete their terms. It is absurd allegation on new government because firstly they have not asked to resign all governors who are/were political heavy weights in Congress. Hence the request to resign is not politically motivated. Secondly all such governors whose tenor is about to expire have not been asked to resign. Please refer table below clarifying this point.

State Name Took office Background Tenor ends Replacing
Chhattisgarh Shekhar Dutt 23-Jan-10 IAS   Replace
Gujarat Kamla Beniwal 27-Nov-09 Congress 14-Oct-14 Replace
Kerala Sheila Dikshit 11-Mar-14 Congress   Replace
Maharashtra K. Sankaranarayanan 22-Jan-10 Congress   Replace
Nagaland Ashwani Kumar 21-Mar-13 IPS   Replace
Uttar Pradesh Banwari Lal Joshi 28-Jul-09 IPS   Replace
West Bengal M. K. Narayanan 24-Jan-10 IPS   Replace
Karnataka H. R. Bhardwaj 29-Jun-09 Congress 28-Jun-14
Tripura Devanand Konwar 25-Mar-13 Congress 28-Jun-14
Haryana Jagannath Pahadia 27-Jul-09 Congress 26-Jul-14
Bihar D. Y. Patil 22-Mar-13 Congress 26-Nov-14
Assam Janaki Ballabh Patnaik 11-Dec-09 Congress 10-Dec-14
Rajasthan Margaret Alva 12-May-12 Congress 5-Aug-14

From the above list, it is clear that out of seven governors who have been asked to resign, only Ms. Kamla Beniwal is due to complete her term on 14-Oct-14. The other six more governors who are completing their tenor soon, have not been asked to put their papers. Hence the allegation of not letting them to complete is totally malafide & intentional.

The second allegation that NDA is taking revenge on Congress political background governors is also biased & full of mischievous content reporting because out of seven governors who have been asked to resign, only three, Ms/Shri Kamla BeniwalSheila DikshitK. Sankaranarayanan, are Congress leaders while rest four have service background. We all know that Ms Kamla Beniwal were never in syn with Modi when he was CM there. It is alleged that she was instrumental in putting spanner in many plans proposed by Modi at the instance of Delhi Durbar. Ms Sheila Dikshit was appointed as governor after Delhi defeat to save her from embarrassment she might have received by the hands AAP Government. While Maharashtra government has to go seeing assembly election in that state in September. Hence opposite political background has nothing to do with these replacements. If the political background was the criteria then 19 out of 37 governors, having opposite political background, would have been sacked.

It is clear as day light that present media fraternities are not happy with Modi government due to reasons best known to them only. Though this government is only 15 days old, media has started asking those question which they dare not to ask in last 10 years. Any & all new government needs time to understand the system before taking action to correct them.

It would be fair for media to let Modi & Co run this government for fairly long time before raising  these question. And this is also duty of fair & unbiased media not to spread negative news & panic in public to gain TRP as they are doing now in case of price rise. Let them understand if price are rising within 100 days of new government then it is not due to ineffectiveness of new government but mis-rule of previous government.
