On Angelic Devilry

On Angelic Devilry!

by Pamarty Venkataramana

‘Mirror, mirror, tell me who’s the fairest of them all?’

… The first most romantic lines of intrigue and suspense one read in the good old those days of books and literary pursuits..

The question can posed both by one confident of her looks as well as by one puzzled over the mystery of her looks.

To stretch it farther, in an ‘uni’ world, this may be asked by both men and women, curious to know about themselves.

Devilry being a cheeky past-time, one acquires over practice of cross-examining witnesses, in criminal trials and in civil litigation as well, that eternal query is modified now, in the Achey Din Modi era to ask-

‘Who is the devil among us?’

If, as Caesar’s wife, one were to be above suspicion, why do so many intellectuals masquerade behind Twitter ‘handles’ to discuss, dissect and deliberate upon important matters affecting social interaction of thought as well about action, acts, inaction or over-action?

Anonymous social media world is haunted by Devils of many kinds. Unknown to even that greatest of all film makers, Vittalacharya of South Indian film industry. Oh, Rowling? She’s just taken a leaf off those old evergreen desi films. . Mythology turns Modern..!

Why and if so be the case are these devils donning a mask to unmask those overtly frightening misdeeds of the mainstream media Devils?

Are the demons of society so ubiquitous in presence that innocent, harmless but well-meaning folk including housewives, retired gentry and even the regiment of workaholics who have no time on hands devote energies and seemingly keep vigil over the devilry of these cool cats, stalking hyenas and man eating tigers (err, tigresses too?)?

Who, then is the oddball-handle or angel in disguise out to act as your muse of good times? Charlatans like ‘calendar-man’ hired professionals who sucked him dry and banished him to an island for default of huge bank-loans he had pilfered beyond the permissible parameters of law and finance.

Nouveau rich are as evil in their open visibility as witches flying overhead on the broomstick .. The first acquisition of all these psuedos is a luxury car, depending on the extent of success of loot. Next is a house. Then, comes club-memberships. Then, flashy Bhappi Lahiri type of gold chains and ropes around their frame. Vices rule their lives. Add-ons in spousal relationships or extra terrestrial beings catch their attention. No drive. No ambition. No hunger pangs. No qualms of conscience. More importantly, no sense of respect nor a fear of the law.

These are the devils in society of our times.

In stark contrast are rarest of rare. Angels disguised as Devils. They are the eyes, ears and mind of rulers of the land. They act as antenna of public sentiment and provide feedback to their political boss. Yes, this tribe is known for allegiance and loyalty. No multiple bosses or Mata Hari type of duplicity about them. They are not grounded angels albeit being grounded to the ground.

Yes, ‘am I the devil?’ of the first category or this other golden hearted variety? – ought to be the single question every handle worth the missing blue-tick ought to ask the mirror of good-conscience.

So much of steam is let out daily on social-media. Often making it more volatile as a street under siege when rioting mobs go amuck.

But, of one other being an angel in guise of the devil is what scares Lucifer’s servants who have occupied all free slots of our society, both virtual as well as real.

A Devi or a Devil?

This, dear friends, is the question-mark of all ‘transparent’ FoE claiming personalities. After all, even the bots and robots, we know, are soon to have an Aadhar-Card as identity and proof of existence among ones who breathe air to be live. Coming if the ‘digital-age’..

Thank goodness, a devil need not necessarily be one. Heart of gold as an angel but mind of a devil ..

Sandbag of devilry?

God knows…
