Love at first sight!

Friends, this story is based on real life. My friend who studied with me in collage was a victim of love. I watched her life closely and also shared sorrow. With her permission I am writing this story.     ——————————– Author: Janani Srinivas

I am taking you all 16 yrs back, Sudha my friend, a beautiful girl, was born as the elder daughter in a Brahmin family. Her father was a state government employee & mother was a homemaker. Whenever I think about my friend Sudha, even now, the first thing which comes to my mind is her beautiful smile. She is of medium height, long hair, big big eyes with kajal in it. When she used to speak not only from her lips but with her livily eyes too. They were so impressive. Whitish complexion, sharp nose with nose pin on the right side with a single stone used to make her more beautiful. Every Friday, she used to wear pavadai dhavani(it’s a traditional half saree worn by south Indian girls) with a loose plated hair, jasmine flowers in it. She used to look stunning wearing matching bangles, earning and bindhi. She was a very happy girl till she met her bad destiny in the form of love which changed her life completely.

It was love at first sight. Only God knows was it “Love at first sight” or “bad karma”?

Myself and Sudha were studying in an esteemed college in Chennai, we were doing 2nd year degree. At that time our mutual friend Jyothi introduced a guy called Sri to Sudha. Sri was a computer class friend to Jyothi. Sri was doing his M.A. first year in a city college. He was very fun loving, handsome and energetic guy who attracted Sudha at a first meet itself. Sri also started developing affection towards her. Sudha used to travel by public transport to college. Sri started following her from college to till her house. She didn’t mind Sri following her as she also loved being followed. Sri used to bring roses everyday for her but she never used to accept it from him. Sri’s mind always used to think of Sudha only. If one she doesn’t come to the college bus stop, he used to search for her, look around everywhere and used to feel sad. This went on for months like this.

One day in rainy season, where the clouds were dark, rain was pouring, heavy wind was blowing, he followed her from college as usual. When the bus stopped in the depot & everyone got down running to seek shelters due to heavy rain and Sudha was about to get down, Sri caught her hand and made her sit in the bus. She started trembling with fear. By the time she could realize what is happening, Sri went on his knees and proposed her. He said “I love you”. So many emotions were running in her mind. One side shy, the other side fear. She doesn’t know what to do that moment. It was like a thousand butterflies flying in the air. She was feeling on top of the world. Is it called as blind love? I have no answer! Her heart was pumping like an engine, may be a feeling of jogging in a treadmill. As far as I know Sudha is a very quiet girl, she has not even spoken to any boys other than her relatives and closed circle friends. She was very conservative. I think she waited for this proposal from the moment she saw him 6 months back. She immediately accepted his proposal but her only concern were her parents whether they accept it or not! She was hardly 17 year old not known much of the world and what is called reality of life. She was also like any teenager with full of filmy kind of dreams and child like heart.

  3. This Narrative is Plaintive Indeed but the best thing was Sudha got her family(Mother and Father) back which is a significant part of her life. Hats off to her parents for accepting her again and helping her throughout. Thank You for sharing. God bless Janani and her friend Sudha.

  4. Janani Amma, I felt sad at the end of your storey for your friend Sudha.A hurried decision on her part, her parents who were real friend was completely ignored.Moral of the storey is an opener for modern day children who are not prepared to listen to their parents who are the best friends.
